Introduction
The Department of Family Medicine continues to face significant
challenges in the budget arena, requiring even greater planning and
consideration of its business model, processes and procedures.
An integral component of this planning is in the purchase of
information technology products and services. At present, the
department reflects a diverse approach to the selection and purchase of
enabling technologies at the research, clinical, administrative and
teaching levels.
Guidelines and processes are currently being developed to assist
in the selection of IT-related products and services based on
identified ‘Best of Breed.’ These guidelines include: quality of
service; cost effectiveness; volume; impact to the department and data
network; maintenance and repair; and compatibility.
Our goal is to provide the best practices possible for operation.
IT department will ensure standards for desktop/workstation, laptops
and other IT equipment and recommendations that will provide numerous
short and long term benefits to the Department of Family Medicine.
