5.0 Policies on the use of Internet
The Department of Family Medicine does not currently monitor the use of
Internet facility. However, absolute care should be taken when using
the Internet. The Internet is a worldwide community which contains a
highly diverse user population and sites that could be harmful to
computer systems.
The IT Department strongly recommends that all persons within the
Department of Family Medicine use this resource wisely and with care.
Users must avoid copyrighted sites, pop-ups and other sites that bring
serious harm to computer systems.
Also, offensive contents may not be accessed, displayed,
attained, stored, distributed, edited or recorded using the department
Internet facility or computing resources. Content deemed offensive
includes: sexually-explicit content, racist/sexist content, violent
content, or foul language.
It is advisable that no one should use computing facilities to
download or distribute pirated software or data. Not only could this
software contain viruses and other harmful software, but downloading
and using pirated software is illegal. Any software or files downloaded
via the Internet may be used only in ways that are consistent with
their licenses or copyrights.
