It is important to ensure users make effective use of systems and
technology. Furthermore, it is essential that the Information
Technology Department contains the costs associated with providing
desktop and laptop support. Knowing how to use technology appropriately
should be regarded as a professional responsibility required throughout
the Department of Family Medicine’s staff and students.
This responsibility includes:
Using standard hardware and software wherever possible
Communicating with other users in standard formats
Acquiring training in the use of their system (as necessary to
do their jobs) by attending training classes, keeping and reading
instruction manuals
Following standard operating procedures for backups, software installation, troubleshooting
Performing routine backups of important data and files
Being able to understand and perform basic computer tasks such as copying files, installing some software, etc.
Using their systems responsibly and ethically, regarding these
systems as assets to the Department of Family Medicine which enable
them to do their job efficiently
