1.0 Policy for Purchasing Desktop, Laptops and other Computer Equipments
The IT department will assume responsibility for the purchase of all IT
equipment to be used at the MFPH, the SFHC, the Maternity Centre and
all other branches of the Department of Family Medicine.
The recommended vendor for standard desktops and laptop
computers for specific needs is DELL computers. All purchases of
non-standard desktop computers other than DELL, such as Alliance
computers, Future Shop, the Internet and other vendors should be
discussed with the IT department first.
IT department must approve specifications of equipment to ensure
standards are met before any requisition is sent to the purchasing
department. Specification of hardware and the standards guarding the
quality of this hardware is the sole responsibility of the department.
To maximize support effectiveness, IT controls the number of
manufacturers and the base configuration of each computer. Only
hardware purchased based on the standards defined by the IT department
will be supported by IT. Manufacturers have been determined based upon
the excellence of the products and good reliability ratings found in
research.
Adhering to these standards and guidelines will ensure that if any
technological problems should arise with any hardware, the IT will be
able and willing to address the problems to the best of their
abilities.
